Personality: Calanthia is a stubborn girl that usually won’t take no for an answer and won’t give up on anything she has set her mind to. She doesn’t like it when people tell her to stop something that she has set her mind on or that is dangerous. She also dislikes it greatly when people tell her to take it easy because of her condition so she just ignores them. She isn’t normally emotionally swayed but sometimes she can’t help it; she’s still a girl after all. She doesn’t like to cry in front of people especially those close to her because she doesn’t want them to worry or think of her as weak. She is very close to her younger sister and would do anything for her if she was asked. She is also really close her mechanic friend, Simon, and even though she never says it she’s very thankful to him. She is loyal to those she deems worthy and that doesn’t always include the military.
Family & Friends:
Lillian Brooks (Mother/Missing)
Aimerey Brooks (Father/Deceased)
Azmaria Brooks (Little Sister)
Simon Cassidy (Close Friend/Mechanic)
History: Calanthia was born to Lillian and Aimerey Brooks in their home town Dublith. She was raised by both her parents seeing as the military allowed her mother to stay home at the time. She was a happy child and loved growing up with both her mother and father. She would follow either one of them around while crawling or even when she had learned to walk. Even at this young age she seemed to have a bit of an interest in alchemy although she didn’t really know what the books said she’d sit with her mother while she was reading them.
Not long after her 1st birthday she was blessed with a little sister. She liked to try to help her mother take care of her little sister. She found a great joy in being an older sibling and grew up caring for her in every way she could. Calanthia found her life great having a little sister and both her parents and she didn’t think anything could take away anything for her. That opinion changed, however, when her sister and her awoke one day to find their mother gone.
Their father explained to them that their mother’s duty to the military couldn’t hold off any longer and that she had left to help with things. He told them that their mother would return after she was finished with her duties to the military but she never did. From that point, Calanthia hated her mother and everything the military stood for. She had felt that her mother had abandoned her only family to go be a dog of the military.
Not long after her mother left, she started reading books on alchemy and continued wanting to learn more despite it having something to do with her mother. She had always had an interest in it and couldn’t keep her hands off of any of the books. She ended up gathering her sister’s attention on the subject too. They would both sit in their mother’s office and read the books until they fell asleep. Once they had enough knowledge of it they started to practice it helping each other and showing their friend, Simon, what they had learned.
When Calanthia was 10 and her sister was 9, their father grew ill and they couldn’t figure out just what was wrong with him. Plenty of doctors came to see him and all of them said the same thing. The siblings weren’t going to give up though and they continued to look for doctors that could help him. Although their effort was worth nothing in the end and a year after their father had grown ill he died.
Calanthia was the most devastated by this seeing as she had been the oldest and had been closest to her father. After their father died the siblings were taken in by Simon and his mother, who had been close family friends. The girls, however, weren’t going to let this obstacle stop them and they continued to study up on alchemy this time with a different intention in mind. They ended up finding someone to help them learn and stayed with them for a good year learning what they just couldn’t from books. When their teacher couldn’t teach them anymore they returned to their home in Dublith.
After another year, when Calanthia was 13 and her sister was 12, they had managed to gain enough money doing odd jobs and practicing their alchemy to do what they had been planning to do. They waited until they knew every measurement perfectly and decided on the date and time. They went to their home, which had been empty for some time and set things up in their mother’s office. Everything was in order and so they started the transmutation. Things seemed to be going well at first but soon it was clear that this hadn’t been their best idea.
Calanthia watched as her little sister disappeared before her eyes calling out her name as she did and then a pain came from inside herself. Next thing she knew she was coughing up blood and could hear the struggling of something from where they had put the ingredients. What was meant to be their father was nothing but a tangle of flesh. She looked away with tears falling down her face, which had appeared when her sister had disappeared. She struggled to her feet to make her way over to the feminine suit of armor that had always stood in her mother’s office.
Calanthia had decided that she was going to bond her sister’s soul to the suit of armor no matter what the cost. She managed to do it and found herself at a Gate which took her right arm in exchange for her sister’s soul although she didn’t care. After that everything went blank and she woke up a week later in Simon’s home. It wasn’t until another week went but that they were visited by a couple of military people. The one had been one of the people they had sent a letter to when they had been looking for their mother. They offered them a spot in the military as they showed promise with their alchemy.
In though Calanthia deeply hated the military and any ties they may have had with her she thought this would be a way to find her. She wanted to be able to tell her mother in person had badly she had ruined their lives and what had happened after she had left. She asked Simon and his mother to fit her an automail arm and promised to pay them everything she owed them when she entered the military. They trained for a full year and when they felt that they were ready they left their friend and home behind.
Calanthia applied to become a State Alchemist and passed with little trouble. She was the youngest in recent history to become a State Alchemist being only 14. She didn’t let her sister take her chance at becoming one because she felt it was her duty as the eldest to become a dog of the military. Her sister helped her with her duties for the first year but after that she forced her to go back to Dublith and help Simon and his mother with their business. She continued with her work for the military occasionally visiting her sister and Simon when she finds the time and is still looking for a way to return her sister and herself to normal. She was recently appointed the title Lieutenant Coronel.
